Blogging is no longer a new thing. People from different walks of life are doing it.
This article features the reasons why teachers should learn how to blog.
What is a blog?
A blog is an online journal that is utilized for personal and business use. For those who are using them for personal diaries, they have the option not to publicize their writings.
For those who have business goals to achieve and use a blog as a tool for promotions and marketing strategy, this kind of webpage can be the best venue to write about products and services, using the right words that will capture the attention of the target clients.
For teachers, a blog can be of great help in various aspects of teaching and learning. The enumerated points below answer the question “WHY” educators should consider learning how to blog.
Blogging is sharing with the world.
Some blog features work similarly to that of your Social Media account. You can even link your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other platforms to your blog for a sharing option that is just a click-the-button away.
If you have projects in your school, successful activities you hosted as well as ideas and resources you would like to share with the world, you can create a blog post about those things and write everything about them.
You can use your own dialect/language if you’d like to. The good thing is that there are layouts in your blog or themes, which make every blog post more appealing.
For teachers who wish to share some teaching strategies, you can use your blog to provide details about it. Providing more pictures and videos about your blog post is possible and even more encouraged. The only thing you need to think of is that you should make sure that whatever you share, your readers will get something from it. That is what we do as teachers, right?
You can choose to guide, inspire, inform and educate your readers of the blog posts you create and share in your blog.
Blogging can be merely expressing yourself.
Accordingly, teaching is the noblest profession, but at the same time the most stressful one. Honestly, I do not agree with the latter. I have never been very stressed with my teaching job, but along with the teaching-tasks are, of course, those many sorts of stressors.
My point here is that you can use your blog as your outlet in order to express yourself. It is not necessary for you to give information always in every blog post that you create. You can do whatever you want with that post as long as it will make you feel okay. You can write poems and prose in your entries. You can post random photos and talk about them.
It doesn’t have to be always an informative post.
As you express yourself through blogging, it would feel like you are creating a journal, which helps you improve yourself more. You will know yourself more and improving your writing skill could come as a bonus.
Do you get it now? Blogging can do miracles sometimes. 😀
Blogging can be used as a Teaching Strategy.
I have used this twice already and I don’t know why, but my students were amazed at realizing that I know how to create a blog. I have made announcements via blog posting and collected relevant articles for them to read as references for our class.
Since you can allow a contributor to your blog post, I let them have writing tasks, let them create their contributor profile, and allowed them to post on that blog. I felt that they were very happy for that experience.
Using a blog as a teaching strategy is ideal only if your students can access the Internet. If they will have trouble doing so, then I discourage using it as a source of their reference or of your important announcements.
