Ash Wednesday 2023

I am so blessed because I attended the Ash Wednesday Mass in 2023.

Jesus said to his disciples: “Take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father.” Matthew 6:1

Reflection:

In today’s gospel, we are reminded to re-examine our lives to see if we are doing things that can gain us our rewards from the heavens or if we are exerting much effort for earthly gratifications.

In most cases, we do good things for others, not because we want to help but because we want that help to be rewarded.

I’ll confess that most of the time, I have this in mind, especially when I think that my help is a sacrifice of my comfort.

I always tell myself, “this will return to me in many folds,” and whenever I help, I am always proud that I always share it with the world.

I always tell myself that I was sharing with other people to inspire them with my deeds, but NO, that’s NOT TRUE; it’s not the case. I was trying to boast about myself.

Sigh.

I am an imperfect human, and we all are, but today, we are reminded to stay humble… silence our sacrifices, and keep our good deeds to ourselves because God knows and sees everything we do.
