Why Having Your Own Workspace At Home Is Important?

Now that almost everything is done online, if you are a teacher, a student, a virtual assistant, a freelance writer, or a photo and videographer, it is vital to have your workspace at home.

Certainly, for teachers like me, we have our own office, a cubicle or table perhaps, which we can use at work, but with the Work-From-Home (WFH) schemes due to COVID-19 protocols, we are compelled to work at home, even if our environment is not that conducive for working.

In most cases, we use any table and chair that is available.

There is no issue in doing this. However, based on my experience, the non-permanent space at home becomes a stressor over time. It messes up our work, so we sometimes lose our documents. Since we are working at home, other family members use that space also to do their tasks.

It disorganizes everything.

Before COVID-19, I already had my spot in my room since I was doing part-time jobs besides teaching. But when we were required to have online classes, as I do my teaching tasks as a college teacher and learning tasks as a student, it forced me to invest in improving my workspace.

This was last year’s setup. I purchased this microphone and even upgraded my desktop specs. The same year, I also bought my laptop because I could not perform my tasks well because I was using an outdated 5-year-old one before.

Here are three of the essential benefits of having your workspace:

Focus.

Instead of just borrowing a small space at home where you need to work, having your spot gives you more focus on what task to work on.

You do not need to stress yourself about waiting for that spot to be emptied and vacated by other family members because that is your workspace, and you own your time using it whenever you want.

Creativity.

This is what I enjoy so much about having your workspace; with so many inspirational ideas on Pinterest and even on IG and Tiktok, designing your workspace is part of a stress-relieving activity. You can be minimalist or maximalist in your designs.

You can be creative in expressing yourself in how you design your workspace. I am still working on mine, and I hope to share my progress with you someday.

Organization.

Organization is the ultimate benefit of owning a spot for you to focus and, at the same time, practice or express your creativity in designing your workspace at home. It gives you more freedom to arrange your things in the order you want them to be, and it improves your productivity because being organized contributes to the pace at which fast you can accomplish your task and motivates you to keep producing quality work.

We cannot underestimate the advantages of having our workspace at home. I would say that deciding to have your own space and dedicating some time to improve it is an act of SELF-LOVE.

So, get your spot and buy those cute little things you want to be part of your workspace.
